My Family
I was born and spent the better part of my life thus far in Dubuque, Iowa. Looking back now, I realize it was early on in my upbringing in this wonderful part of the state where the seeds for my career in education would be planted. It was during my early schooling years when I developed my love for reading and writing. This continued through high school and college, where I jumped at the chance to discuss a book, article, or author with whomever would engage with me. I was fortunate to be brought up with parents and siblings who also enjoyed literature and talking about what each was reading. This never fading enjoyment led me to investigate education as a possible career choice while attending St. Ambrose University. I really enjoyed the first few education classes I took, but it wasn't until I had the chance to get into a school and work with kids that I knew for sure teaching was what I wanted to do.
I am in my 15th year of teaching; this is my 11th in 6th grade and I previously taught 3rd grade, all at Bridgeview! I am grateful for the opportunity I have each day to work at an outstanding school with an excellent principal (yes, I'm talking about Mr. Hiatt;) and an outstanding staff who are dedicated to making a difference for our over 330 amazing students.
Teaching takes a close second to the biggest love of my life, my family. My wife Lindsay (a Kindergarten teacher), is a lovely, intelligent, kind-hearted, beautiful human being. I am a very lucky man to have such a special person be such a big part of my life. We actually started "dating" in eighth grade and spent our high school and college years figuring out the inevitable: we were destined for each other. 12 years of marriage and two daughters in, we couldn't be happier.
Isabel, our oldest, will turn 11 this October and has never ceased to amaze us. She is a wonderful child who truly loves life and all it has to offer. She is an animal lover and an aspiring chef. It is inspiring to witness someone so young with such a big heart and high aspirations.
Sophie turned 8 at the end of May and ensures there is never a dull moment at our house! She is a sweet, goofy girl who likes to catch frogs in her princess costume and belt out her favorite tunes whenever and wherever she feels compelled to.
